WINTER 2011-2012
Kaleidoscope in Mission Viejo and the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Orange County and the Inland Empire have teamed up again to help grant wishes for kids living with life-threatening medical conditions. Now through the end of January, local high school members of Make-A-Wish clubs are volunteering each Saturday at Kaleidoscope’s Ice-less Skating Rink to raise money for their club to benefit the Foundation through an interactive donation table and a percentage of ice-skating ticket sales.
Kaleidoscope Entertainment Center patrons can come by the Make-A-Wish table at Kaleidoscope between noon and 8 p.m. and purchase paper stars for $1 to be displayed on Kaleidoscope’s Make-A-Wish Star Wall. They can also win one of several fantastic prizes on the prize wheel for $5 and receive a Make-A-Wish calendar as a thank-you gift from the Foundation for a $10 donation. Additionally, each club will receive 30 percent of all ice-skating ticket sales on their respective Saturday throughout the month of January.
Each high school club raises funds throughout the year with the ultimate goal of adopting the wish of a local child.
Club members of Tesoro High School raised more than $360 on the event’s first day, this past Saturday, Jan. 7. Tesoro High School recently reached their goal to adopt a wish. Club president Timothy Zaki is in his second year of presidency and received the Foundation's prestigious Club President of the Year award in June of 2011. Tesoro will be working the event again this Saturday, Jan. 14.
Dana Hills High School club members will be volunteering at the event on Jan. 21. Dana Hills is one of the Foundation's strongest clubs and is currently the top fundraising club in all of Orange County and the Inland Empire (out of more than 50 participating schools). The club also recently reached their goal to adopt a wish.
Brea Olinda High School’s club will work the final day of the event, Saturday, Jan. 28. Brea Olinda has maintained a Make-A-Wish Club for several years and has raised thousands of dollars for the Foundation. Last year’s club president is actually a former wish kid whose wish was to go to Paris.
Students, parents, teachers and faculty from each school are encouraged to come on their school’s day to show support and school pride! The cost for ice skating is $10 per person, plus $2 skate rentals. For toddlers, age four and under, the cost is $8 and includes skate rentals.

OCTOBER 2011
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Kaleidoscope has teamed up with Chrysalis to Wings in support of project A.W.O.L. (A way of life...after cancer) A.W.O.L. is a program originally and specifically designed for women who have or have had breast cancer. However, as of 2010, project A.W.O.L. has welcomed and invited women with all types of cancer.
The central purpose of A.W.O.L. is to provide every woman who has undergone or is currently undergoing cancer treatment with weekend retreats that include psychotherapeutic services needed to cope with her illness and to improve the quality of her life, which includes an emphasis towards issues of body image that can sometimes be minimized by self, clinicians, family, and even people in the support system due to the potentially life threatening component of cancer. Dealing with these issues is essential to someone whose sense of self is highly based on how she looks on the outside.
Donations of $1.00, $5.00 or $10.00 are gratefully accepted and will help to fund this non profit California Corporation.
Participating stores: Flame Grill, Jump ‘n Jammin, Riptide Rockin Sushi & Teppan Grills, Rockin B’s Burrito Bandito, The Derby Deli & Dueling Piano Bar, and Yogurtland.
